Our mission.

Since 1989, we’ve provided reliable, sustained financial support to our libraries.
The Alachua County Library District (ACLD) Foundation was incorporated in 1989 as a 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation to support the ACLD. While tax funding provides a stable basis for library operations, the Foundation, through the financial donations it receives, plays an important role in enhancing and expanding the Library District’s services and programs offered at its many branches throughout Alachua County. The Foundation thus serves Alachua County residents using its financial resource to enhance the Library District’s capability to better serve its communities and meet diverse needs:
-
Adding Value to the Library District’s Mission
Tax revenue covers basic technology, programming, core educational resources, general access, and maintenance of Library District’s facilities. ACLD Foundation seeks to enhance what can be done with tax funding. Our projects complement and expand upon the core services already provided by tax revenue. We try to work alongside tax funding to achieve more.
-
Supporting Lifelong Learning
The ACLD Foundation may fund or offer scholarships for Library District sponsored educational programs such as specialized workshops, classes, or certifications that enrich the community.
-
Creating Unique Community Spaces
The ACLD Foundation enhances the Library District’s physical spaces by adding special areas for children, collaborative workspaces for community innovation, installing public art or interactive exhibits that reflect the community’s culture.
-
Expanding Access to Technology
ACLD Foundation projects focus on providing cutting-edge tools or specialized equipment such as 3D printers or virtual reality equipment for educational programs, loanable WiFi hotspots to bridge the digital divide, or advanced software for creative or professional development.
-
Community Engagement and Ownership
Donations to the Foundation enhance its ability to foster a sense of community ownership and engagement. When citizens contribute to their local library, they are more likely to feel invested in its success and advocate for its continued support.
-
Matching Funds and Grants
Donations to the Foundation enhance its ability to match grants from other organizations, thus multiplying the impact of the initial contribution. Many grants require a matching part, and having a pool of external funds can make it easier for the Foundation to secure these additional resources.
